Yes, lets go for 3!

WWI

WWII

World Cup.

Sorry if deemed in poor taste, but whenever Germans would give me shit in a pub about being an American, and it happend quite a bit while living in Prague, I'd just say "Zwei - Null".

Q: What's the first thing they teach French recruits in boot camp?

A: How to say "I surrender" in German.

Cheese Eating Surrender ...

No no
wouldn't be appropriate

How can you call this a sport when you can not know the penalty , or what infraction is ? Every 'umpire/ref ' needs to transparently and fairly call the game / match , and be accountable for their calls .
This level of subjectivity - which is in all sport to some degree - is on gymnastics or ice skating level . I mean to watch Brazil play is beautiful . But soccer will never be a Big sport here until that dynamic is changed . It will be , mostly , for the kids whose parents ( moms ) don't want their kids fall sport to be football .
Make sure you get enough greek fire on those arrows :)

I confess that I streamed the match today at work, on a government computer on time bought and paid for by the American taxpayers.

Thank you..........

I certainly am waving that flag...in England! Since the world cup began it's been crimson, white and indigo from my window (probably the only one in England other than the US embassy), in contrast to the ubiquitous St Georges. My neighbours complained/laughed ... not now! USA topped the table, and, like New Zealand's tie with Italy, showed you can play for pride rather than over-inflated salaries!

AMAZING. Over an hour late to work because home watching. They deserved and earned it.

And now I'm off on another TDIH to rediscover why June '74 > May '77.

Did you notice Bill Clinton sitting with FIFA President Sepp Blatter at the game ? He was getting quite animated, and gave a pretty good post match analysis. (Better than most of our Toff politicians could manage)

This is my favourite part of this tournament, the third phase of the round-robin, this is when teams have to win, at the knock-out stages (round of 16, quarter-finals (not round of 8) semis and final, you do not have to win, just play for a tie and win on penalty kicks. The road has been paved for the Americans as after Ghana, you play the winner of Uruguay and Korea in the quarters. Compare that with others and this is a much, much easier path. I love the way the Americans are playing, kind of balls-to-walls no fear, no prisoners attitude. I just hope we get a first time winner as only one first timer in the past 32 years.

I'm a casual observer of soccer every 3.9 years, but whenever the World Cup arrives, I always get excited. Today's match was the most heartstopping, gutwrenching and exhilarating thing i've seen in the last 30 years. Not since the miracle on ice, have I been as emotional as what I was this morning. This is the true embodiement of sporting compitition. Over an hour later, I'm still breathless!

Now, let's make the last 8!

I'll have to go see an L.A. Galaxy game now to see Landon Donovan. He was a big hero today. I liked when he was asked about the dissallowed goal in the first half he basically said we don't cry about it, we move on! I think there might have been a bit of crying by the fans about the officiating but WE ARE MOVING ON!!! I know these guys are not the favorites to win it all but they were relentless in their offense and had lots of opportunities. I am certainly pulling for them. Can't wait for the next game!

Why upset? Just a bunch of overpaid prima donnas who fall down and grab their ankles and complain to the referees every time someone breathes on them. I'd rather watch youth league soccer than this stuff.

I'm going to do that the next time I go to a restaurant and the bill is outrageous. Fall down and grab my ankle (or my wallet) to see if they give me a break.

Yeah, the level of acting is pretty freakin' funny.

However, I did watch the entire replay of the game yesterday evening - I was getting to the point of "With so many shots on goal and not one point maybe they deserve to lose" (they did get robbed of the first goal but with no reviews it's understandable that refs screw up once in a while). Anyway, it was pretty worth it to see the winning goal in 'overtime'.

My daughter and I tremble when my wife watches hockey. She is Czech and screams a blue streak of Czech profanity at the set.

I get it.

Roughest sport i've ever seen is Marines playing lacrosse w/o pads. Just shorts and shoes. Lots of blood.
